Prodeo Academy and Metro Schools College Prep add 865-panel rooftop system
A high-tech and eye-catching rooftop solar array has been added to a prominent Minneapolis North Loop property near Target Field. The owners of North Loop Campus, located at 620 Olson Memorial Highway in Minneapolis, Minnesota and home of charter schools Prodeo Academy and Metro Schools College Prep, made the decision to convert the building’s power source to solar with the help of All Energy Solar.
“This is a truly impactful and unique project that makes us particularly proud as a company,” said Michael Allen, president and co-owner of All Energy Solar. “The optics of a big rooftop solar array in a major metropolitan downtown sends a message about how versatile and financially feasible solar has become. North Loop Campus now sports a solar installation that will catch the attention of hundreds of thousands of people from the highways and high-rises nearby. We know that helps them realize, ‘If solar works in snowy Minneapolis, in a location where real estate is in high demand, it must be living up to the hype.’ And we know the students will be curious and hopefully inspired to see what human ingenuity can accomplish. These students can be proud that their school is showing leadership through the use of alternative energy, raising awareness of the benefits of solar energy in our community. After all, it is their generation that will take our clean energy technologies to a whole new level.”
“Both charter schools at the North Loop Campus will experience the benefits of this green energy installation,” added Allen. “The story of responsible care for our earth through reduced emissions and a lower carbon footprint will come home to more than a thousand students, families, staff and visitors each day. As an added educational feature, a dedicated monitor installation in each school entry lobby will live stream the energy saving metrics of our solar installation.”
North Loop Campus has been outfitted with a 303kW array of 865 solar panels on a variety of flat-roof surfaces across the building’s footprint. The system is expected to generate approximately 350,000kWh of electrical offset in Year 1. The project received a funding grant from the 2018 Minneapolis Green Business Solar Cost Share program. Prodeo Academy is a network of free, public charter schools aimed at providing families in the Twin Cities metro area with a high-quality education option. The Minneapolis Prodeo campus serves scholars in grades PreK to 5th, and the St. Paul campus serves grades K to 1st. The Prodeo college preparatory programming develops students to be critical thinkers and intelligent leaders, expanding their opportunities to contribute positively and productively to society.
