On East Lake Street in Minneapolis, Sam Navab and his family run American Rug Laundry, a company that cleans and restores area and Oriental rugs. It’s a 125-year-old business that they bought in 2000. When All Energy Solar approached Navab and explained the benefits of investing in solar power, he thought it was the prudent thing to do.
“We have always wanted to be part of conservation in our business. For example, we have always recycled. We don’t use harsh chemicals—it’s mostly natural cleaning and products—and we are environmentally conscious,” said Navab. “Creating our own energy as well as helping with a cleaner environment drove us to choose solar, along with the tax incentives.”
The 2016 solar installation went very smoothly for American Rug Laundry. Navab said they are using less electricity now because they moved the plant, so the store is currently creating 50 percent of its own usage. The savings have also been substantial.
“We are happy about the solar installation. In fact, we are considering adding solar to our other location since it has a much bigger roof,” said Navab.
Navab noted that solar energy fits the American Rug Laundry brand, and they are the second company on Lake Street to use this technology. His customers can see how the business is using solar, too. “We have a panel and monitor in our lobby that shows the public what is happening with the solar panels. Overall, people like the idea that the company cares about the environment.”
Navab thinks investing in solar is a good deal, and more people should be aware of its benefits. “Solar energy is an excellent investment for a good cause and for the environment.”
