For more than 20 years, Focus on Energy has partnered with local Wisconsin utility companies to provide rebates for properties that use renewable energy sources.
Wisconsin residents who are customers of one of the many participating utility companies can receive up to $500 per solar panel system. Residents living in designated zip codes could receive an additional $500.
Some changes have come for incentives for solar in multifamily and commercial properties. Rebates for these properties range from $200 to $50,000, depending on the size and production capacity of the installed solar panels. Rebates increase with each additional kW between 5 kW and 500 kW.
Agricultural producers can get up to an additional $10,000. This incentive is for those who produce grains, livestock, fruits, vegetables, and other standard agricultural-produced products.
Focus on Energy rebates can be used in addition to federal tax incentives. Earlier this year, President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law. Among other things, it will increase the tax credit for solar panels and solar energy storage units to 30 percent. Previous to the update, this amount would have been 22 percent in 2023 before being entirely gone for residential properties by 2024.
While federal incentives are scheduled to last for over a decade, rebates from Focus on Energy are only guaranteed for 2023. In addition to this, there is a cap on incentives for the year. To take advantage of Focus on Energy, it’s best to apply early, so you don’t miss out.
