Travis and Kristy Mills of Mound consider themselves conscientious energy consumers. They drive a Tesla electric car. They are both professors at St. Paul College, and Travis did research on advances in organic semi-conductors when he was working toward his Ph.D. Travis’ research led to a recent investment aimed at reducing their carbon footprint: their solar power system. Installed by All Energy Solar, the 9.7-kilowatt system has 29 solar panels mounted on the home’s south-facing roof.
“Our solar system has cut our monthly bill roughly in half—and that includes the electricity needed to provide a daily charge to our car,” said Kristy.
The Millses received two rebates on the system: a Made In Minnesota rebate from Xcel, and a 30-percent tax credit on the system cost from the state of Minnesota.
