Thanks to the Conserve and Save program, both Austin and Owatonna public utilities are offering solar rebates for 2023.
The Conserve & Save program is offered for residential properties that use Owatonna Public Utilites or Austin Utilites. These utilities provide a $500 flat rebate for having solar (PV) systems installed on your property. Installed solar systems must be at least two kW DC to qualify, and must be interconnected to the grid through your utility provider.
The program requires that the installation is correctly installed with all new components. These programs run on a first-come, first-served basis due to limited funding. Because of this, and the uncertainty that this rebate will be offered in the future, it is best to act as soon as possible if you want to take advantage of rebates from your utility provider.
These local incentives can be used with the Solar Investment Tax Incentive (ITC) the federal government provides. Last year this incentive saw an increase from a 22 percent tax credit to now offering a 30 percent tax credit on your solar panel system.
