2024 Austin and Owatonna Solar Rebate

Austin Utilities and Owatonna Public Utilities are both continuing to offer solar rebates for customers who install solar energy systems.

In an effort to meet sustainability goals, and encourage customers to make energy-efficient upgrades to their properties, Austin Utilities, Owatonna Public Utilities, and Rochester Public Utilities have been teaming up for years to provide rebates through the Conserve and Save program.

Through the Conserve and Save program, customers of Austin Utilities and Owatonna Public Utilities can receive a flat rate rebate of $500 on solar systems of 2kW DC or greater. Interconnection to the utility company is required to receive this rebate. However, there are other requirements that the solar array must meet. All Energy Solar’s professionals are well-versed in the program and can ensure all requirements are met. Additionally, this program has limited funding and operates on a first-come, first-served basis to decide whom funds are distributed to, so it is best not to wait.

In 2024, Rochester Public Utilities will no longer offer a rebate to those installing solar systems. With this unexpected change, it is uncertain that Austin and Owatonna will continue the rebate in the following years. Taking advantage of these incentives now is crucial while you still can. There is no guarantee that solar installations will continue to be a part of the Conserve and Save program in the future.

In 2022, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) was passed. This has given homeowners the ability to take advantage of a 30 percent federal tax credit on solar power systems. The Austin and Owatonna rebate can be used in addition to this incentive to maximize savings on solar. While this tax credit is currently scheduled to last until 2032, it might be repealed sooner. With possible political changes coming in 2024, there is no guarantee that it will continue to be offered or stay at the same amount.
